Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Grand Duchy. An Order of the Griffin, Honour Cross, c.1915
(Greifen-Orden, Ehrenkreuz). Instituted 15 September 1884 by Grand Duke Friedrich Franz III. (1884-1918 issue). Constructed of gilded silver with enamels, consisting of a Maltese Cross, the obverse with red enameled arms, with a central medallion bearing a raised Griffin, the reverse with five visible rivets securing the structure together, with a barrel hinge and banjo-style vertical pinback meeting a round catch, unmarked, measuring 56.12 mm (w) x 57.84 mm (h), cracking is evident to the enamel of the twelve o’clock arm, in overall better than very fine condition.
