Oldenburg, Grand Duchy. A Friedrich August Cross, I Class, c.1915
(Friedrich August Kreuz I. Klasse). Instituted 24 September 1914 by Grand Duke Friedrich August. (1914-1918 issue). Constructed of blackened bronze, consisting of a Cross Pattée, the obverse with pebbled arms and a laurel wreath joining the quadrants, with a central monogram of Grand Duke Friedrich August, the six o’clock arm bearing an institution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm bearing a royal crown, the reverse with a crimped barrel hinge and tapering vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked, measuring 46.00 mm (w) x 46.16 mm (h), weighing 26.9 grams, sporadic loss of finish is evident, in overall near extremely fine condition.
