Oldenburg, Grand Duchy. A House and Merit Order Honour Cross, I Class
(Haus- und Verdienstorden Ehrenkreuz I. Klasse). Instituted 27 November 1838 by Grand Duke Paul Friedrich August. (1838-1918 issue). Constructed of gilded silver, consisting of a Cross Pattée, the obverse with a central raised monogram of Peter Frederick Louis, circumscribed by an inscription of “EIN GOTT, EIN RECHT, EINE WAHRHEIT” (“EIN GOD, ONE RIGHTEOUSNESS, ONE TRUTH”), the reverse with a central raised Oldenburg coat of arms, the twelve o’clock arm with an integral loop connecting to a hollow crown suspension, in turn with a suspension ring connecting to a period original ribbon, unmarked, measuring 35.15 mm (w) x 38.97 mm (h), weighing 18.8 grams (inclusive of ribbon), in extremely fine condition.
