Oldenburg, Grand Duchy. A Non-Combatant’s Medal Bar, EKII & Friedrich August Cross
A non-combatant’s medal bar consisting of 1) An Iron Cross 1914 Second Class (Eisernes Kreuz 1914 2. Klasse). A cross pattée of multi-piece construction with a blackened iron core (magnetic) within a ribbed border, on loop for suspension, the obverse with a raised central “W”, with the re-institution date “1914” in raised numbering on the lower arm, and the royal crown on the upper arm, the reverse with a central oak-leaf branch consisting of three oak leaves, with the original institution date “1813” in raised numbers on the lower arm, a raised Prussian crown on the upper arm, with “FW” in equally raised lettering directly below, measuring 43.42 mm (w) x 43.38 mm (h). 2) A Friedrich August Cross Second Class (Friedrich-August Kreuz 2. Klasse). Constructed of blackened metal (magnetic) with a laurel wreath between the arms of the cross, the obverse centrally inscribed “FA” for “Friedrich August”, with a raised crown on the upper arm of the cross and “1914” on the lower arm of the cross, the reverse plain, measuring 39.40 mm (w) x 39.51 mm (h). Suspended from a medal bar via a non-combatant’s Iron Cross 1914 Second Class ribbon, and a non-combatant’s Friedrich August Cross Second Class ribbon, with a zink core, a black wool backer, and a horizontal pinback, measuring 77 mm (w) x 58 mm (h), with some loss of the black finish on the Iron Cross, and with light glue remains from previous collector mounting behind the Friedrich August Cross, but in overall extremely fine condition.
