Oldenburg, Grand Duchy. A War Merit Medal 1916
(Kriegsverdienstmedaille 1916). Instituted 21 November 1916 by Grand Duke Friedrich August. (1916-1918 issue). Constructed of blackened magnetic iron, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse with a leftward-facing profile of Grand Duke Friedrich August, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse with an inscription of “FÜR TREUE DIENSTE IM WELTKRIEGE” (“FOR FAITHFUL SERVICE IN THE WORLD WAR”), unmarked, measuring 28.03 mm (w) x 39.98 mm (h), weighing 15.0 grams, in better than very fine condition.
