Prussia, Kingdom. A Hohenzollern Commemorative Medal for Combatants, 1848-1849
(Hohenzollern Denkmünze für Kämpfer 1848-1849). Constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse with a raised Cross Pattée, with a central medallion bearing a Hohenzollern eagle circumscribed by an inscription of “VOM FELS ZUM MEER” (“FROM THE CLIFFS TO THE SEA”), with a laurel and oak leaf wreath through the quadrants, the reverse with a central inscription of “FRIEDRICH WILHELM IV, 1848-1849” circumscribed by an inscription of “SEINEN BIS IN DEN TOD GETREUEN KRIEGERN” (“HIS WARRIOR LOYAL UNTO DEATH”), unmarked, measuring 29.87 mm in diameter, weighing 14.7 grams, in extremely fine condition.
