Prussia, Kingdom. An Honour Badge for Midwives
(Ehrenzeichen für Wehmütter). Instituted 1886 by Kaiserin Augusta. (1890-1918 issue). Constructed of gilded silver, the obverse consisting of a circular laurel leaf topped by a crown, overlaid by a stylized banner bearing an engraved inscription of “TREUE DIENSTE” (“FAITHFUL SERVICE”), set above a raised cherub, the reverse with four visible rivets securing the obverse features in place, with a barrel hinge and horizontal pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked, measuring 40.34 mm in diameter, weighing 29.1 grams, in extremely fine condition.
