Prussia, Kingdom. An Order of the Red Eagle in Gold, III Class Cross, by Sy & Wagner, c.1885
(Roter Adlerorden, Kreuz III. Klasse in Gold). Instituted 12 June 1792 by King Friedrich Wilhelm II. (1854-1918 issue). Constructed of Gold with enamels, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a Gold frame and white enameled arms, the obverse with a central medallion bearing a finely-detailed Hohenzollern Eagle, the reverse with an analogous medallion bearing a gilt monogram of King Friedrich Wilhelm II, the six o’clock arm maker marked “S. & W.” for Sy & Wagner, Berlin, measuring 38.19 mm (w) x 42.10 mm (h), weighing 12.8 grams, loss of enamel is evident to the obverse arms, with a slight crack on the nine o’clock arm, in overall better than very fine condition.
