A Fine Prussian Red Ealge Order; 3rd Class in Gold with Swords by Wagner

Finely produced in gold with white enamels with detailed hand painted red eagle, measuring 38.5 mm, weighing 15 grams, marked W on bottom of 6 o'clock arm, with minor contact to white arms from general wear, a Wagner Private Purchase with Godet Swords, with correct replacement ribbon, extremely fine. Footnote: "Wagner was the main supplier of the RAO (also the KO, and the PLM -- basically all the major Prussian Orders). J. Godet was primarily a supplier of high-end private-purchase duplicates and miniatures -- they were the supplier for high-end luxury orders. Their PLMs, for example, were only purchase-types, never awarded. The cross has a body (the main cross) by Wagner, however the swords are very typical Godet style, thereby making this cross a luxury type from during or directly after the First World War. There would not have been a great demand for these, given the low award numbers. [C81]
