Prussia, Kingdom. A Military Merit Cross Miniature, c.1917

(Miltär-Verdienstkreuz). Instituted 27 February 1864 by King Wilhelm I. (1864-1918). Constructed of gilded bronze, on loop for suspension from a silvered bronze boutonniere with a period original length of ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée, the obverse with a central medallion bearing a raised inscription of “KRIEGS VERDIENST” (“WAR MERIT”), the reverse with a monogram of King Wilhelm I, unmarked, measuring 16 mm (w) x 17 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition.
