Prussia, State. A Merit Cross for War Aid, Mounted
(Verdienstkreuz für Kriegshilfe). Instituted on 5.12.1916 by King Wilhelm II. (Issued 1916-1924). A Maltese cross constructed of war alloy; the obverse inscribed “Für Kriegshilfsdienst” (German - For War Aid), with an oak wreath on the bottom half of the cross; the reverse with the Royal Monogram of “Wilhelm Rex”; with double loops for suspension, with some of its period original ribbon, measuring 41.90 mm (w) x 41.82 mm (h), weighing 36.0 grams, mounted onto a medal bar, with a gray wool backer and a horizontal pinback, in overall very fine condition.
