Prussia, State. A Royal Order of the Crown in Gold, II Class Class, c.1900

(Königliche Kronen-Orden II Klasse). Instituted on October 18, 1861 by King Wilhelm I. (Issued 1867-1918). A Gold cross pattee with white enameled arms, the obverse with a circular central medallion in Gold depicting the Royal Prussian crown, surrounded by a light blue enameled ring, inscribed “Gott Mit Uns" (German- God with Us) in Gold lettering, the reverse with a circular central medallion depicting the royal cipher of King William I in Gold, surrounded by a light blue enameled ring, inscribed “Den 18 October 1861) (German - the 18th of October 1861) also in Gold, on a period non-combatant’s ribbon, measuring 51.10 mm (w) x 51.09 mm (h), weighing 29.4 grams with its ribbon, in extremely fine condition.

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society. His knowledge and passion for history and awards is evident in this meticulously compiled collection that is now available in its entirety for the first time exclusively on eMedals.com.
