Prussia. A 1916-1918 Issue Royal Houseorder of Hohenzollern Knight’s Cross with Swords
An extremely fine quality and very well preserved Prussian House order of Hohenzollern Knight’s Cross with Swords (Königlicher Hausorden von Hohenzollern Kreuz der Ritter mit Schwertern); constructed of silver gilt and fine blue, green, black, and white enamels in the shape of a cross pattée with arms in rounded ends with white-black white-alternating enamels; with gilded crossed swords and a green enameled oak leaf wreath between the arms; the obverse with a black enameled eagle in a white enamel center medallion, surrounded by a blue enameled ring circumscribed “Vom Fels zum Meer” (From the mountain to the ocean); the reverse with a white enameled center medallion with the crown cipher, surrounded by a blue enameled ring circumscribed “Den 18 Januar 1851” (The 18th January 1851); maker marked “W&S” for “Wagner & Sohn” and with the German crescent moon and crown, as well as “937” for silver content; on a swivel crown suspension and its matching seemingly unused period original ribbon; measuring 37.94 mm (w) x 59.68 mm (w); weighing 24.0 grams. Accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of heavy pressed paper with a black faux leather (leatherette) exterior; with a lined interior lid and a lined medal bed; functional spring catch with stud release; intact interior fabric hinge cover and a fully intact exterior leatherette hinge; measuring 88 mm (w) x 68 mm (h); very small chip in the enamels on the six o-clock arm on the reverse; in overall near mint condition.
