(Hausorden von Hohenzollern, Komtur Bruststern). Instituted 5 December 1841 by Prince Konstantin of Hohehzollern-Hechingen and Prince Karl Anton of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. (1861-1918 Issue). Presenting as a six-pointed radiant silver star bearing a white enameled Ruppert Cross bordered in black enamels, overlaid on a green enameled laurel wreath, obverse centre applique depicting a Hohenzollern-style Prussian imperial eagle in black enamel on a white enameled field, with a a blue enameled surround featuring the Order’s motto of “VOM FELS ZUM MEER” (“FROM THE CLIFFS TO THE SEA”), centre reverse with four rivets, barrel hinge with banjo-style pinback meeting a round wire catch, central maker’s mark of “Godet, Berlin” along with silver content mark of “938”, measuring 77.18 mm (w) x 66.52 (h) and 59.8 grams, with minor flecking of enamels but otherwise in extremely fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
