A Prussian Order of the Red Eagle 1861-1918; Grand Cross by Humbert & Söhn - In Gold and enamels, 78.88mm(w) x 78.65mm(h), weighs 48.2 grams; suspension arch marked H & S (for Humbert & Söhn, Berlin); of excellent quality manufacture, with fine details and fine quality enameling; slender cross typical of this period, no chipping to enamels, in slightly worn condition, and without sash ribbon. Footnote: Humbert & Söhn, Berlin, was a jewellery company producing Prussian Orders and Insignia from around 1799 until about 1865 in Berlin, hence with certainty we can place manufacturing of this cross around 1861-1865. Very rare early Grand Cross in excellent condition.
