Emanating from the plate is an oxidized magnetic metal spike measuring approximately 9.5 cm from base to tip. Affixed to the peak is a magnetic metal insignia consisting of a plate in the form of a Prussian imperial eagle clutching a sword and sceptre, overlaid by a banner bearing an inscription of “MIT GOTT FÜR KÖNIG UND VATERLAND” (“WITH GOD FOR KING AND FATHERLAND”), measuring 12.5 cm (w) x 11 cm (h) overall. The helmet is flanked by non-magnetic metal rivets which secure in place a black leather chinstrap, adjusted with dual functional magnetic metal buckles. Situated beneath the studs are magnetic metal cockades, with the left side painted in a black and white Prussian colour scheme, while the right side is painted in an Imperial black, white, and red motif. Completing the exterior features are a rounded frontal visor, and a lobster tail-style multi-piece neck guard, riveted with nine magnetic metal studs for structural integrity. The interior retains a brown leather liner, culminating in eight fingers, each perforated at the top with eyelets for the accommodation of a drawstring which has been lost to time. Stamped onto the crown is a maker’s mark of “C.E. JUNCKER”, above a manufacture date of “1916”. The reverse of the neck guard’s rim is additionally stamped with a size of “56”.
