Prussia, Kingdom. A M1915 Line Cuirassier Enlisted Personnel Metal Helmet, by C.E. Juncker
(Metalhelm M1915 für Mannschaften der Kürassier-Regiment). A Prussian M1915 Line Cuirassier Enlisted personnel Metalhelm (Metal Helmet). It is constructed of a patinated magnetic steel shell with a silvered reinforcement fully trimming the rim. Riveted to the crown is a cross-shaped baseplate constructed of oxidized magnetic metal, secured in place with four rivets of identical construction. Emanating from the plate is an oxidized magnetic metal spike measuring approximately 9.5 cm from base to tip. Affixed to the peak is a magnetic metal insignia consisting of a plate in the form of a Prussian imperial eagle clutching a sword and sceptre, overlaid by a banner bearing an inscription of “MIT GOTT FÜR KÖNIG UND VATERLAND” (“WITH GOD FOR KING AND FATHERLAND”), measuring 12.5 cm (w) x 11 cm (h) overall. The helmet is flanked by non-magnetic metal rivets which secure in place a black leather chinstrap, adjusted with dual functional magnetic metal buckles. Situated beneath the studs are magnetic metal cockades, with the left side painted in a black and white Prussian colour scheme, while the right side is painted in an Imperial black, white, and red motif. Completing the exterior features are a rounded frontal visor, and a lobster tail-style multi-piece neck guard, riveted with nine magnetic metal studs for structural integrity. The interior retains a brown leather liner, culminating in eight fingers, each perforated at the top with eyelets for the accommodation of a drawstring which has been lost to time. Stamped onto the crown is a maker’s mark of “C.E. JUNCKER”, above a manufacture date of “1916”. The reverse of the neck guard’s rim is additionally stamped with a size of “56”. The helmet measures approximately 21 cm (w) x 31 cm (l) x 27.5 cm (h) (inclusive of spike). Issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include moderate tarnish and surface oxidation of the metal features, and material fatigue to the leather fixtures. The helmet is in an overall very fine condition.
