Prussia, Kingdom. An Infanterie-Regiment 88 Enlisted Personnel Pickelhaube

(Preußen Pickelhaube für Männer der Infanterie-Regiment 88). An Infanterie-Regiment 88 Enlisted personnel Pickelhaube, constructed of a boiled and blackened leather shell. Situated atop the crown is a gilded brass spike perforated around the neck with ventilation holes, and which is secured in place with a baseplate featuring four rivets. A bar of identical construction emanates from the back of the baseplate and extends down to a boiled and blackened leather neck guard. Riveted to the peak is an insignia consisting of a gilded brass plate in the form of a Prussian imperial eagle clutching an orb and sceptre, overlaid by a banner bearing an inscription of “MIT GOTT FÜR KOENIG UND VATERLAND” (“WITH GOD FOR KING AND FATHERLAND”), and with a additional banners bearing inscriptions of “LA BELL ALLIANCE” and “MESA DE IBOR MEDELLIN”. The plate measures 12.5 cm (w) x 9.5 cm (h). It is flanked on each side by bronze studs which secure in place a replacement black leather chinstrap, adjusted with dual functional bronze buckles. Situated beneath the studs are magnetic metal cockades, with the right side painted in a red, white, and black Imperial tri-colour motif, while the left side is painted in a Prussian black and white colour scheme. The exterior features are completed with a protruding boiled and blackened leather visor, with the rim reinforced by a gilded bronze bar. The interior retains a brown leather liner, culminating in nine fingers, each perforated at the top with an eyelet through which is looped an original drawstring. A name of “ANERS FAUCHEUX” is hand-written onto the crown in white ink. The Pickelhaube is otherwise unmarked and measures approximately 17 cm (w) x 22.5 cm (l) x 23 cm (h) (inclusive of spike). Issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include moderate material fatigue to the shell and other leather features, the replacement of the rear bar with an ill-fitting substitute, and minor oxidation of the brass features. It is in an overall very fine condition.
