Prussia, Kingdom. An Order of the Crown, III Class Cross in Gold, by H.J. Wilm
(Königlicher Kronen-Orden, Kreuz III. Klasse in Gold). Instituted 18 October 1861 by King Wilhelm I. (1869-1918 issue). Constructed of Gold with multi-coloured enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with white enameled arms trimmed with gilt borders, the obverse bearing a central raised Gold crown, within a ring of blue enamel bearing a gilt inscription of “GOTT MIT UNS” (“GOD WITH US”) with arabesques, the reverse bearing a central raised Gold monogram of King Wilhelm I, within a ring of blue enamel bearing a gilt institution date of “DEN 18 OCTOBER 1861”, the core maker marked between the three and six o’clock arm with a maker’s mark of “WILM” for the firm of H.J. Wilm, Berlin, measuring 41.50 mm (w) x 46.06 mm (h), weighing 12.4 grams, a small chip is visible to the enamel of the obverse 12 o’clock arm just below the loop, in near extremely fine condition.
