Prussia, Kingdom. An Order of the Crown in Gold, I Class with Swords & Ribbon of the Red Eagle Order, by Johann Wagner & Sohn
(Königliche Kronen-Orden, I. Klasse Kreuz mit Schwertern und Emailleband des Roten Adler-Ordens). Instituted 18 October 1861 by Kaiser Wilhelm I. Type II. (1871 Issue). In Gold with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a Gold frame, with crossed swords piercing the centre of the cross, with a white and golden enamelled ribbon of the Order of the Red Eagle weaving between the arms of the cross, the obverse with white enamelled arms with Gold accents, with a central medallion bearing a raised royal crown, surrounded by a ring of blue enamel with a Gold inscription of GOTT MITT UNS (GOD IS WITH US) and arabesques, the reverse with an analogous medallion bearing the monogram of Kaiser Wilhelm I, surrounded by a ring of blue enamel with the inscription of DEN 18. OCTOBER 1862, maker marked on bottom cross arm with W for Johann Wagner & Sohn of Berlin, measuring 62.94 mm (w) x 63.24 mm (h), weighing 40.9 grams, the twelve o’clock arm with an integral loop connecting to a suspension ring, with its period original sash ribbon, and in extremely fine condition.
