Prussia, Kingdom. An Order of the Red Eagle, II Class Cross in Gold, by Neuhaus & Sohn

(Roter Adlerorden, II. Klasse in Gold). Instituted 12 June 1792 by King Friedrich Wilhelm II. (1864-1918 issue). Constructed of Gold with enamels, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a Gold frame and white enameled arms, the obverse bearing a central white enameled disc overlaid by a hand-painted and extremely detailed Prussian imperial eagle, the reverse bearing a central white enameled disc overlaid by a gilt monogram of King Friedrich Wilhelm II, the twelve o’clock arm with an integral loop and suspension ring connecting to a period original shortened length of ribbon, the six o’clock arm maker marked “N” for the firm of Neuhaus & Sohn, Berlin, measuring 46.88 mm (w) x 51.24 mm (h), weighing 20.7 grams, with a small chip visible to the edge of the obverse enameled disc at approximately the two o’clock position, in near extremely fine condition.
