A second class set, consisting of 1) A Second Class Breast Star with Swords; a silver four-rayed star, the obverse with a central silver gilt medallion bearing the depicting the Royal Prussian crown, surrounded by a light blue enameled ring, inscribed “Gott Mit Uns" (German- God with Us) in Gold lettering, with crossed swords going through the central medallion; vertical pinback with a vertical pinback and a functional hinge/catch assembly; measuring 79.62 mm (w) x 79.80 mm (h); weighing 63.6 grams. 2) A Cross Second Class with Swords; a silver gilt cross pattee with white enameled arms; the obverse with a circular central medallion depicting the Royal Prussian crown, surrounded gilt lettering; the reverse with a circular central medallion depicting the royal cipher of King William I, surrounded by a light blue enameled ring, inscribed “Den 18 October 1861) (German - the 18th of October 1861); marked “W." for “H.J. Wilm. Berlin” on the bottom of the six o’clock arm; measuring 52.13 mm (w) x 52.16 mm (h); weighing 35.7 grams; with solder point affixing sword hilt to star base, otherwise in overall near extremely fine condition.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
