Reuss, County. A Silver Merit Medal of the Princely Honour Cross with Swords, c.1915
(Silberne Verdienstmedaille mit Schwertern zum Fürstrich Reußischen Ehrenkreuz). Instituted 24 May 1869 by Heinrich XIV. (1909-1918 issue). Constructed of silver, with an integral loop connecting to a clasp of crossed swords and a period original ribbon, the obverse with a central monogram of Heinrich XIV topped by a royal crown, the reverse with an inscription of “FÜR VERDIENST” (“FOR MERIT”) in Fraktur script, inside of an ornate laurel wreath, unmarked, the medal measuring 32.73 mm in diameter, the swords measuring 36.02 mm (w) x 12.41 mm (h), weighing 19.9 grams overall, the reverse inscription has been cast upside-down, in extremely fine condition.
