Saxe-Coburg & Gotha, Duchy. A Saxe-Ernestine House Order, Merit Medal with 1914/17 Clasp
(Silberne Verdienstmedaille des Herzoglich Sachsen-Ernestinischen Hausordens mit Schwerterspange 1914/7). Instituted 25 March 1833 by Dukes Friedrich of Saxe-Altenburg, Ernst I of Saxe-Coburg & Gotha, and Bernhard II of Saxe-Meiningen. (1917 issue). Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribboned fastened with a “1914/7” sword clasp, the obverse bearing a raised and rightward-facing profile of Duke Carl Eduard of Saxe-Coburg & Gotha, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse bearing a central depiction of the Saxe-Ernestine House Order, circumscribed by an inscription of “FIDELITER ET CONSTANTER” (“FAITHFUL AND STEADFAST”), unmarked, the medal measuring 30.03 mm in diameter and weighing 14.5 grams, the clasp measuring 38.55 mm (w) x 17.00 mm (h) and weighing 4.2 grams, demonstrating minor tarnishing, in near extremely fine condition.
