Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Duchy. An Honour Badge for Service to the Homeland, c.1918
(Ehrenzeichen für Heimatverdienst). Instituted 10 July 1918 by Duke Carl Eduard. (1918-1919). Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse with a raised rightward-facing profile of Duke Carl Eduard, circumscribed by name and title, topped by a royal crown, the reverse with a Saxe-Coburg and Gotha coat of arms, topped by an inscription of “FUER VERDIENST” (“FOR MERIT”), above an inscription of “TREU UND BESTAENDIG” (“FAITHFUL AND CONSTANT”), the edge marked “SILBER” with a content number of “990”, measuring 32.80 mm (w) x 52.33 mm (h), weighing 30.1 grams (inclusive of ribbon), in extremely fine condition.
