Saxe-Ernestine, Duchy. A Miniature House Order of Saxe-Ernestine, with 1914/18 Clasp, c.1918
(Herzoglich Sachsen-Ernestinischer Hausorden Miniatur). Constructed of gilded silver with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a Maltese Cross with white enameled arms completing in ball finials and joined together through the quadrants by gilded lions rampant, the obverse bearing a central gilt medallion featuring a raised profile of Duke Ernst, within a ring of blue enamel bearing a gilt inscription of “FIDELITER ET CONSTANTER” (“FAITHFUL AND STEADFAST”), in turn situated within a green enameled oak leaf wreath, topped by a clasp bearing dates “1914/18”, the reverse bearing a gilded and enameled Saxe-Ernestnine coat of arms, within a ring of blue enamel bearing a gilt date of “D. 25. DECEMBER 1833”, in turn situated within a green enameled oak leaf wreath, topped by a hollow crown suspension, unmarked, measuring 16.17 mm (w) x 24.42 mm (h), weighing 2.2 grams, with some chipping visible to the enamels, in near extremely fine condition.
