(Sachsen-Ernestinischer Hausorden). Instituted on 25 December 1833. (2nd Model, issued 1864-1935). An eight-rayed silver breast star; the vertical and horizontal arms are gilded while the diagonal arms are silver, riveted to the star is a white enameled eight-pointed, four armed Maltese cross, bordered with wide, golden edges and tipped with golden finials, gilded swords cross between the arms, at the center is a large, round medallion, at the center shows a green enameled Gold crown, bordered by the a blue-enameled ring bearing the inscription, in golden capital letters, “FIDELITER ET CONSTANTER” (“FAITHFUL AND STEADY”), bottom completed with a small four-pointed star, a laurel wreath of enameled Gold laurels sits around the medallion, the reverse presents a vertical pin, functional hinge and catch, measures 74.41 mm (w) x 82.52 mm (h), weighs 56.2 grams, small chipping to green and blue enamels, the bottom white enameled arm has been period re-enameled, thus in overall very fine condition. A scarce circa 1870 period issue star, by maker "Fa. Bury & Leonhard, Hof Juwelier, Hanau".

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
