Saxe-Meiningen, Duchy. A House Order, Silver Medal of Merit, Type VI
(Silberene Verdienstmedaille des Herzoglich Sachsen-Ernestinischen Hausorden). Instituted 25 March 1833 by Duke Friedrich of Saxe-Altenburg, Duke Ernst I of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, and Duke Bernhard Erich II of Saxe-Meiningen. (1914-1918 issue). Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised leftward-facing profile of Duke Bernhard III, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse bearing a central raised depiction of the Saxe-Ernestine House Order, circumscribed by an order motto of “FIDELITER ET CONSTANTER” (“FAITHFUL AND STEADFAST”), the edge marked “SILBER” alongside a content number of “900”, the obverse marked “A. BÖRSCH” for the firm of Alois Börsch, measuring 35.25 mm in diameter, weighing 20.9 grams, in extremely fine condition.
