Saxony, Kingdom. A Commemorative Cross for 1870/71

(Erinnerungskreuz für 1870/71). Instituted 6 March 1871 by King Johann. (1871 issue). Constructed of gilded bronze with blue enamel, on loop for suspension with a period correct replacement ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with pebbled arms joined together through the quadrants by a circular laurel and oak leaf wreath, the obverse bearing a central raised monogram of King Johann, within a blue enameled ring bearing six gilt stars, the reverse bearing central raised dates “1870-1871”, unmarked, measuring 26.91 mm (w) x 31.67 mm (h), weighing 10.6 grams, the ribbon is mis-matched to the size of the loop, in overall near extremely fine condition.
