Saxony, Kingdom. A Commemorative Cross 1870/71

(Erinnerungskreuz 1870/71). Instituted 6 March 1871 by King Johann. (1871 issue). Constructed of gilded bronze with enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original tri-fold ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with pebbled arms, the obverse with a central raised monogram of King Johann, within a ring of blue enamels, the reverse with central raised dates “1870-1871”, with a laurel and oak leaf wreath through the quadrants, unmarked, measuring 27.12 mm (w) x 31.54 mm (h), weighing 14.1 grams, in near extremely fine condition.
