(Silberne Verdienstmedaille mit Schwerterspange). Instituted in 1905 by Duke Carl Eduard. (Issued 1915). A round silver medal, the obverse depicting the rightward facing bust of Carl Eduard, circumscribed by his name and title, the reverse depicting a merit cross, circumscribed “FIDELITER ET CONSTANTER” (Faithful and Steadfast), on a broad ribbon attachment loop, with its period original ribbon and sword clasp, measuring 30.38 mm in diameter, weighing 22.7 grams with its ribbon, in overall very fine condition.
