Saxony, Kingdom. An Albert Order, Commander’s Star, by G.A. Scharffenberg, c.1900
(Albrechts-Orden, Bruststern zum Komteurkreuz). Instituted 31 December 1850 by Frederick Augustus II. (1876-1918 issue). Constructed of silver with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a four-pointed radiant star, the obverse with a central applique depicting a rightward-facing gilt profile of Albert II on a white background, surrounded by a blue enameled ring with gilt inscription “ALBERT ANIMOSUS” (“ALBERT THE MERCIFUL”), surrounded by a ring of pebbled gilt, the reverse with a barrel hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked “G.A. Scharffenberg, Dresden”, measuring 87.94 mm (w) x 88.02 mm (h), weighing 54.8 grams, minor tarnishing and flecking of enamels, otherwise in near extremely fine condition.
