An extremely fine quality manufacture 1918-1921 issue Saxon Military Order of St. Henry Knight’s Cross (Kurfürstlich Sächslischer Militär-St. Heinrichs Orden Ritterkreuz); a silver gilt knight’s cross; the obverse with a central enamel medallion, depicting St. Henry, surrounded by a blue enameled ring, inscribed “Frid(ericus), Aug(ustus) d(ei) Garatia) Rex Sax(oniae) Instrauravit (Latin - Frederick August by the Grace of God, King of Saxony); with the outer edges of the maltese cross in white enamels and green enameled florets between the arms of the cross; the reverse with a golden and enamel center applique, surrounded by a blue enameled ring, inscribed “Virtuti in Bello” (Latin - For bravery in war); marked R on bottom arm for A.Roesner, suspended from a swivel crown suspension; with a horizontally-pierced ball and ring suspension; with its period original ribbon; measuring 38.63 mm x 56.70 mm; weighing 21.0 grams (with its ribbon); theribbon in poor condition, but the cross extremely well preserved, without chips or cracks to the enamels; overall extremely fine condition.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
