Saxony, Kingdom. A Military Order of St. Henry, Knight, c.1915
(Kurfürstlich Sächsischer Militär-St. Heinrichs Orden). Instituted 1736 by Prince-Elector Friedrich August II of Saxony. Type III (1829-1918). In silver gilt, a Maltese cross with white enamelled borders, a green enamelled crown in each quadrant, the obverse with a central enamelled medallion depicting St. Henry wielding a tri-pronged sceptre and an orb, surrounded by a blue enamelled ring, inscribed FRIDR AUG DG REX SAX INSTAURAVIT, the reverse with a silver gilt and enamelled center applique, surrounded by a blue enamelled ring inscribed VIRTUTI IN BELLO, suspended from a hollow swivel crown suspension with a horizontally-pierced ball and ring suspension, marked S in the knee of the six o’clock arm denoting silver composition, measures 37.8mm (w) x 53.7mm (h - inclusive of integral crown), weighs 22.6 grams, accompanied by a replacement ribbon, minor enamel wear in the green enamelled crowns on the obverse and reverse, lovely patina, remains in very fine condition.
