Saxony, Kingdom. An Order of St. Henry, Knight (Collectors Copy)
(Kurfürstlich Sächsischer Militär-St. Heinrichs Orden). Instituted on 7 October 1736. Post-1945 Copy. A gilded silver Maltese cross with white enamelled edges, between the arms of the cross are green-enamelled rue florets, the obverse centre displays a yellow-enamelled medallion bearing a painted portrait of St. Henry, the last Saxon Holy Roman Emperor, circumscribed by a ring of blue enamel bearing the inscription FRIDR.AUG.D.G.REX.SAX.INSTAURAVIT, the reverse centre presents the Saxon coat of arms (alternating horizontal black and gold stripes with a diagonal rue crown), encircled by a ring of blue enamel bearing the inscription VIRTUTI IN BELLO (BRAVERY IN WAR), measuring 37.96 mm (w) x 57.61 mm (h - inclusive of Imperial Crown with horizontally pierced ball suspension adorned by cross), weighing 19.0 grams, on loop for suspension from period original tri-fold ribbon, and in near very fine condition.
