(Ehrenkreuz III. Klasse mit Schwertern). Instituted 17 December 1856 by Prince Günther Friedrich Carl. (Issued 1870-1918). In silver, consisting of a Maltese Cross with crossed swords piercing the center, obverse centre with a gilded silver applique bearing a blue enameled medallion with a gilt lion rampant, the reverse with a centerpiece of identical construction bearing a royal monogram, on a loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, unmarked, measuring 40.20 mm (w) x 51.06 mm (h), weighing 27.0 grams (inclusive of ribbon), minor tarnishing and wear of enamels evident, otherwise in near extremely fine condition.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
