Württemberg, Kingdom. A Merit Cross with Swords
(Verdienstkreuz mit Schwertern). Instituted 2 July 1900 by King Wilhelm II. (1915-1918 issue). Constructed of silver with gilt, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with pebbled arms and with gilded swords piercing the centrepiece, the obverse bearing a central raised monogram of King Wilhelm II, the reverse bearing a central raised inscription of “VERDIENST” (“MERIT”), unmarked, measuring 31.68 mm (w) x 36.45 mm (h), weighing 10.5 grams (inclusive of ribbon), demonstrating some tarnishing to the base metal, in near extremely fine condition.
