Württemberg, Kingdom. A Wilhelm Cross with Swords
(Wilhelmskreuz mit Schwerter für Kriegsverdienst). Instituted 13 September 1915 by King Wilhelm II. (1915-1918). Constructed of bronze, consisting of a Cross Pattée with pebbled arms and with crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, the obverse bearing a central raised monogram of King Wilhelm II, situated within a circular oak leaf wreath, the six o’clock arm bearing an institution date of “1915”, the twelve o’clock arm bearing a raised crown, the reverse bearing a central raised inscription of “KRIEGS VERDIENST” (“WAR MERIT”), unmarked, measuring 44.19 mm (w) x 48.20 mm (h), weighing 27.4 grams, in extremely fine condition.
