1856-1918 Issue. (Friedrichs-Orden Bruststern zum Großkreuz). An eight-pointed silver star; the obverse with a silver cross pattee, with a gold central medallion depicting the rightward facing bust of King Friedrich I, surrounded by a dark blue ring of enamels, inscribed with “Gott Und Mein Recht” (German - God And My Right) in gold capital lettering; the reverse with four intact rivets, with a vertical pinback, and a functional hinge/catch assembly; maker marked “Eduard Foer, Königlicher Hog-Juwilier, Stuttgart” on the reverse; measuring 81.45 mm (w) x 81.91 mm (h); weighing 60.0 grams; light patina from age, but with the fully intact, without chips or cracks of any kind; in virtually mint condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
