Württemberg, Kingdom. An Order of the Crown, Civil Division, Grand Cross Star, by Friedrich Steinam
(Orden der württembergischen Krone Bruststern zum Großkreuz). Instituted 23 September 1818 by King Wilhelm I. (1818-1918 issue). Constructed of silver, with multi-coloured enamels, the obverse consisting of an eight-pointed radiant star, bearing a central white enameled Maltese Cross joined together through the quadrants by gilded lions passant, with a central raised crown set within a ring of red enamel, in turn surrounded by a red enameled ring bearing a gilt inscription of “FÜRCHTLOS UND TREW” (“FEARLESS AND LOYAL”), the reverse with a barrel hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a rounded catch, maker marked “F. STEINAM, HOF-JUWELIER, STUTTGART”, measuring 82.70 mm (w) x 83.32 mm (h), weighing 51.2 grams, the obverse centrepiece demonstrating minor loosening and the base silver displays a consistent patina throughout, in extremely fine condition.
