Württemberg, Kingdom. An Order of the Golden Eagle, Exhibition Example in Gold
(Königlicher Hoher Orden des goldenen Adlers, Museumsstück). Instituted 6 March 1807 by King Friedrich I of Württemberg. (1807-1818 issue; ca. 1900 reissue). Constructed of Gold with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a Maltese Cross with red enameled arms, the quadrants joined by finely-detailed imperial eagles, three of the arms completing in stylized horn, with the twelve o’clock arm bearing a fan with an integral loop connecting to a suspension ring, the obverse with a central green enameled medallion bearing a gilt monogram of King Friedrich I, the reverse with a central green enameled medallion bearing a gilt imperial eagle, unmarked, measuring 70.05 mm (w) x 70.42 mm (h), weighing 56.2 grams, there is a chip to the enamel on the reverse nine o’clock arm, with sporadic flecking throughout, in overall better than very fine condition.
