Wurttemberg. A Württemberg Friedrich Order Grand Cross with Swords and Sash
An extremely well preserved example of a 1870-1918 Württemberg Order of Friedrich Grand Cross with Swords (Großkreuz mit Schwertern); First War Period issue in silver gilt cross ; silver gilt cross pattée with sun-rays between the arms of the cross; the obverse with a silver rightward facing bust of Friedrich within a silver pebbled field, surrounded by a ring of blue enamels, inscribed “Friedrich Koenig von Wuerttemberg” in silver lettering; the reverse with a white enamel medallion, insribed “Dem Verdienste” in silver lettering, surrounded by a ring of blue enamels, inscribed “Gott und mein Recht” in silver lettering; with crossed swords suspended from the top arm (Ornate suspension varient), from which a decorated oakleaf wreath is suspended for attachment to the sash; measuring 61.17 mm (w) x 61.17(h - without swords and suspension); weighing 75.4 grams. Original sash is blue in colour, and measures 780 mm x 106 mm; an untouched example in overall extremely fine condition. One of only 107 issued, between two different suspension varients.
