A Reich Protection Gendarmerie Headquarters Head Guard Tunic
(Revieroberwachtmeister): This tunic is fabricated from green wool and is adorned with shoulder boards, each board with chocolate brown embroidery in the centre and bordered on three sides with two rows of fine silvered wire interlaced with brown threading, in a chevron formation, with a silvered bronze pip on the upper, with emerald green wool bases, representing Revieroberwachtmeister, held in place by silvered aluminum buttons with pebbled uppers at the neck end, securing the board in place, each of the buttons maker marked "C. TH. DICKE" (Christian Theodor Dicke, Lüdenscheid) on the reverse. The upper of the collar is fabricated from chocolate brown wool, with collar tabs in fine silver bullion wire with emerald green wool bases, trimmed in twisted rows of silver bullion wire, designating the tunic as that of an NCO (Unterwachmeister to Meister) of the Reich Protection Police. There is a dual hook and eye at the opening of the collar, ensuring a snug fit at the neck line. The upper left arm has the Reich Protection Police Gendarmerie arm badge sewn in place, in emerald green and black embroidery, on a green wool base. There are four pockets on the front, one on each breast and larger ones at the waist on both sides, each with silvered aluminum buttons with pebbled uppers that are maker marked "BERG & NOLTE" (Berg & Nolte, Lüdenscheid) on the reverse, each of the breast pockets with a decorative pleat. The front is completed by a vertical row of eight silvered aluminum buttons with pebbled uppers on the right side, also maker marked "BERG & NOLTE" on the reverse, facing an equal number of reinforced button holes on the left side. The rear of the tunic is single-vented, with flaps trimmed in emerald green piping and two silvered aluminum buttons with pebbled uppers on either side, the upper two buttons with raised bases. The inside is lined in olive green rayon, with a large pocket on the left breast and a small button down pocket near the opening on the right side, along with a reinforced slot that opens into the left waist pocket. The sleeves are lined in rayon with alternating white and black rules as its pattern. It is stamped in black ink with a series of numbers "64, 44, 96, 40, 74, 68" above the maker's mark "Adolf Berger" and the code "5950" on the lining where it butts the collar just inside the opening on the right side, and "Po" above the date "1940" on the lining over the left breast pocket. The tunic measures 420 mm across the shoulders and 710 mm in length overall, with scattered mothing evident in the green wool on the back, exhibiting light soiling and wear in the sleeve linings where they butt the olive green rayon lining, displaying a nice texture in the wool, quality workmanship and intact stitching. Very fine.
