A Wehrmacht Panzer Grenadier Division Tricot Gabardine Tunic; Großdeutschland
This is a very nice and well preserved Wehrmacht Panzer Grenadier Division Officer’s uniform tunic. This tunic features all-original white Officer’s Waffenfarbe shoulder boards with a silvered metal (magnetic) Panzer Grenadier Division pip, attributing this tunic to an Offizier (Officer) rank of the Panzer Grenadier Division Großdeutschland -with matching Großdeutschland cuff title on the left sleeve of the tunic, constructed of a black felt core with silver bullion embroidery with a silver bullion embroidered tress to the top and bottom of the cuff title. The tunic features matching infantry officer’s collar tabs that appear to hand sewn-on. In the front, it features two horizontal-slit breast pockets (one on each side), as well as two larger pockets at waist height, all with standard issue pebble grain cap buttons that are marked “Extra Fein” on the reverse. Six matching and equally marked pebble grain cap buttons run vertically along the opening on the right side of the tunic. Two hook fasteners on the left and right collar opening ensure a snug fit. The eagle clutching a swastika fastened above the right breast pocket is constructed in silver bullion wire on dark green cloth, and is approximately 150 mm in total length. It is factory sewn-on but started to come loose around the swastika. The Iron Cross 1939 Second Class ribbon is looped through the second button hole on one end, and around the seam of the other and appears to be hand-stitched to the tunic, On the left breast pocket, and right above it, are hangers to attach awards and badges. A Wehrmacht Officer’s aiguillette hangs from the second button from the top and is looped through the right shoulder board. The cord is fabricated from fine aluminum bullion wire, divided into three sections: the first section having a cord braided into multiple rows of loops, a thin wire loop attached to the end of the braided portion, the second section has a shorter looped cord with a braided sliding adjustment knot, the third section has a long looped cord, with all three cords joined at five positions. The interior of the tunic has a matching field grey liner that is completely intact with only slight discolouration, mostly around the collar, due to wear. There is also some staining along the bottom inside trim of the tunic, with a 7 cm rip along the right sleeve seam where the thread has come undone due to age (barely noticeable). The sleeve liner is champagne-coloured with light pin striping along the fabric, with a coat hanger loop positioned around each arm hole. On the inside of the tunic is a small horizontal-slit pocket at waist-height, with the dagger hanger strap being in tact with the clip being detached. This tunic is near extremely fine. It has been worn, evident from wear marks on the inside liner, but there is no significant damage, besides the small rip mentioned above, with an additional small rip beneath the left armpit, and with only light staining along the opening of the tunic. Measurements: sleeve width - 15.5cm, shoulders 43cm, chest - 50 cm , sleeve - 60 cm, overall 75 cm.
