Germany, Heer. A Flak/Artillery Officer’s Service Tunic

(Heer Waffenrock für Offizier der Flak/Artillerie). A well-preserved Heer Flak/Artillery Officer’s service tunic, constructed of field-grey wool. It features a turned down-collar which is lined in smooth dark green wool and flanked on each side by tabs. The latter are constructed of dark greek wool with buckram cores, topped by machine-embroidered silver aluminum wire insignia bisected by red threaded bars, and each measure 45 mm (w) x 75 mm (l). The shoulders bear integral loops and pebbled magnetic metal buttons for the accommodation of boards. Both the upper left and right arms show evidence of the removal of insignia. Set into each breast flap are two non-pleated pockets, all closing with straight horizontal flaps perforated with reinforced buttonholes, in turn meeting pebbled magnetic metal buttons. Stitched onto the right breast just above the top pocket is an insignia consisting of a dark green wool base bearing a hand-embroidered silver aluminum wire Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 100 mm (w) x 45 mm (h) overall. Four sets of dual vertically-arranged threaded loops are set into the upper left pocket for the accommodation of decorations with vertical pinbacks, while two horizontal loops stitched into the tunic just above the same pocket allows for the wear of a medal or ribbon bar. Four sets of reinforced eyelets are distributed around the waist for the accommodation of optional belt hangers, two of which are included and are constructed of aluminum. The tunic closes with six pebbled magnetic metal buttons on the right side meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left. Stitched through the penultimate buttonhole is an Eastern Front Medal ribbon. The interior features a partial slate-grey rayon liner inset with a single narrow pocket at the lower right. Stamped onto the upper right breast in silver-grey ink is a depot code, situated just above size dimensions and a partially-legible Reichsbetriebsnummer (RBNr.). The tunic measures approximately 47 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 51 cm, and an overall body length of 68 cm. Issues consistent with age and field use are evident, and include consistent but minor material fatigue to the wool, hand-stitched repairs to some of the buttons, and slight soiling. The tunic remains in an overall very fine condition.
