Germany, Heer. A Panzer Major’s Tropical Field Tunic

(Heer Tropen Feldbluse für Major der Panzertruppe). An extremely well-preserved Heer Panzer Major’s tropical field tunic, constructed of olive-drab cotton. It features a turned-down collar transitioning into double breast lapels. The collar is flanked on each side by tabs constructed of grey rayon, bisected by olive-drab bands in turn flanked on each side by tresses of identical construction. Each tab measures 25 mm (w) x 70 mm (l). The lapels are additionally pinned with silvered Totenkopf insignia in a manner typical of tropical Panzer units, each measuring 25 mm (w) x 22 mm (h) and retaining both reverse attachment prongs. The shoulders are adorned with matching boards constructed of rose-pink wool bases reinforced with card stock cores, topped by four bands of interwoven silver aluminum piping. Each measuring 38 mm (w) x 110 mm (l), the boards are secured in place with integral loops at the outer edge and by pebbled magnetic metal buttons on the inner edge. The cuff of each sleeve features a vertical slit with a reinforced buttonhole meeting an arrangement of two buttons for an adjustable fit. The breast flaps each feature two non-pleated pockets, all closing with horizontal flaps with reinforced buttonholes meeting pebbled magnetic metal buttons. Stitched onto upper right breast just above the top pocket is an insignia consisting of a light brown rayon backer bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika. Measuring 100 mm (w) x 45 mm (h) overall, the eagle is notably attached with its factory original zig-zag stitching. It closes with five pebbled magnetic metal buttons on the right flap meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left flap. The interior presents plain, with the exception of two cotton twill straps set into the waistband, each perforated with four reinforced eyelets meeting three identical eyelets set into the tunic for the accommodation of an optional belt hanger. Unmarked, the tunic measures approximately 440 mm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 560 mm, and an overall body length of 640 mm when folded on a flat surface. Demonstrating only slight material fatigue consistent with light wear, the tunic is in an overall extremely fine condition.
