Germany, Heer. A Reversible Splinter Pattern Camouflage Winter Parka
(Heer Tarnparka). A Heer reversible camouflage winter parka, constructed of padded cotton blend. The exterior is dyed in a classic splinter pattern with a mottle consisting of a pale olive-drab base overlaid by irregular brown and dark green patterns, in turn overlaid by dark green vertical splinters. The reverse is finished in white for use in winter conditions. The parka features a hood adjusted with an internal drawstring. The cuffs feature integral straps with reinforced buttonholes meeting two pebbled zink buttons for an adjustable fit. Each breast flap has a pocket set into the lower half, also accessible from the winter side. It closes with five of six original pebbled zink buttons on the right flap meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left flap. Unmarked, the parka measures approximately 51 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 49 cm, and an overall body length of 66 cm. It demonstrates material fatigue throughout, which includes some rudimentary stitched repairs, as well as fading and soiling consistent with wartime field use and possible postwar use as outdoor or hunting gear. The parka remains in a very fine condition.
