Germany, Heer. An Armoured Major M44 Field Tunic

(Heer Waffenrock M44 für Major der Panzertruppe). An extremely well-preserved Heer Armoured Major M44 field tunic, constructed of coarse field-grey wool. It features a turned-down collar, transitioning into double lapels, which is flanked on each side by tabs. The latter are constructed of dark green wool with buckram cores and are topped by dual machine-embroidered silver aluminum wire insignia bisected by rose-pink threaded bars, each measuring 45 mm (w) x 75 mm (l). The shoulders are flanked by boards constructed of rose-pink wool with card stock cores and topped by four bands of interwoven silver aluminum wire piping. Each measuring 36 mm (w) x 100 mm (l), the boards are secured in place with integral loops at the outer edge and with pebbled magnetic metal buttons on the inner edge. Vertical slits set into both cuffs are closed with a single pressed card stock button meeting two reinforced buttonholes for an adjustable fit. Each breast flap features a non-pleated pocket closing with a straight flap perforated with a reinforced buttonhole meeting a pebbled zink button. Four sets of dual vertically-arranged threaded loops are set into the left pocket for the accommodation of decorations with vertical pinbacks, with a single set of loops similarly stitched into the right pocket, while two horizontal loops above the left pocket offer the option to wear a medal or ribbon bar. Stitched onto the upper right breast just above the pocket is an insignia consisting of a dark green wool backer bearing a silver aluminum wire Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 110 mm (w) x 45 mm (h). It closes with five pebbled zink buttons on the right flap meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left. The interior features a partial grey cotton/rayon-blended liner set across the breast flaps, with a large pocket set into each side, all closing with pressed card stock buttons. Stamped onto the left side of the liner in black ink is a partially-legible Reichsbetriebsnummer (RBNr.), above size dimensions and a manufacture date of “M44”. The tunic measures approximately 43 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 56 cm, and an overall body length of 54.5 cm. Minor, sporadic material fatigue is evident to the outer wool, in addition to minor interior soiling. The tunic remains in an overall near extremely fine condition.
