Germany, Heer. A Gebirgsjäger Flak/Artillery Feldwebel’s M43 Service Tunic
(Heer Gebirgsjäger Waffenrock). A well worn Heer Gebirgsjäger Flak/Artillery Feldwebel’s M43 service tunic, constructed of field-grey wool twill. The tunic features a collar trimmed on the exterior edges with a machine-embroidered silver aluminum wire tresse. The collar is also flanked on each side by a tab constructed of dark grey machine embroidery, bearing three forest-green machine-embroidered bands, both measuring 20 mm (w) x 60 mm (l). Each shoulder features an integrated wool loop and pebbled zink button, accommodating rank straps. Each strap is constructed of forest-green wool, trimmed with red piping, bordered by a silver aluminum wire tresse, and pinned with an aluminum rank pip. The straps both measure 42 mm (w) x 100 mm (l). Stitch on to the upper left arm is a Gebirgsjäger insignia consisting of a field-grey wool base bearing a multi-coloured, machine-embroidered edelweiss, measuring 55 mm (w) x 68 mm (h). Each breast flap has two pockets, all opening with a horizontal flap with a reinforced buttonhole meeting a pebbled zink button. The upper left breast pocket has three sets of vertically-arrange threaded loops for the accommodation of decorations with vertical pinbacks. Above the upper right breast flap is an insignia consisting of a field-grey cotton-blended backer bearing a grey machine-embroidered Wehrmacht eagle clutching a mobile swastika. The eagle insignia measures 100 mm (w) x 55 mm (h). The tunic closes with pebbled zink buttons on the right flap meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left flap. Stitched through the third buttonholes are ribbons are the 1939 Iron Cross and the War Merit Cross. The tunic features four sets of vertically-arranged reinforced eyelets dispersed throughout the belt area, with two magnetic metal belt hooks emanating from the front eyelets. The interior features a partial field-grey rayon liner with an integrated collar hook flanked by dual card stock buttons. A single interior pocket is located at the bottom of the right flap and contains an unused package of gause contained within its original oil cloth wrapping. It is unmarked and measures approximately 460 mm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 570 mm and an overall body length of 685 mm. Age-appropriate soiling and material fatigue is evident, along with some tearing of the interior liner. The tunic is in an overall better than very fine condition.
