Germany, Luftwaffe. A General Staff Hauptmann Summer Field Tunic

(Luftwaffe Sommerfeldbluse für einen Hauptmann im Generalstabsoffiziere). A well-preserved Luftwaffe General Staff Hauptmann’s summer field tunic, constructed of white cotton. It features a turned-down collar flanked on each side by tabs constructed of carmine wool and topped by dual machine-embroidered silver aluminum wire insignia. Measuring 42 mm (w) x 70 mm (h), the tabs are secured in place with four non-magnetic metal snap buttons. The shoulders are flanked by boards constructed of carmine wool with card stock cores, topped by four bands of silver aluminum wire piping, and pinned with two silvered rank pips. Each measuring 35 mm (w) x 115 mm (l), the boards are secured in place at the outer edge with machine stitching, and on the inner edge with pebbled magnetic metal buttons. The cuff of each sleeve is rolled up to a depth of 13 cm and is secured in place with two pieces of machine stitching. The breast flaps have four pleated pockets, all closing with reinforced horizontal flaps perforated with reinforced buttonholes, in turn meeting pebbled magnetic metal buttons. Four vertically-arranged threaded loops are set over the upper left pocket for the accommodation of decorations with vertical pinbacks. The uppermost loops retain a Bronze Grade DRL Sports Badge, measuring 39.29 mm (w) x 48.83 mm (h), and weighing 16.8 grams. Three additional loops above the upper right pocket accommodated a Luftwaffe eagle insignia, which has been lost to time. It closes with eight pebbled magnetic metal buttons on the right side meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left side. The interior is plain and unmarked. It measures approximately 43 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 53 cm, and an overall body length of 70 cm. The exterior material demonstrates soiling consistent with age and storage throughout, with additional minor material fatigue to the insignia. It remains in a very fine condition.
